Books as Gifts for the Young one in your life.

For all the parents out there, if you’re like me and my husband you’re tired of tripping over toys that we made a mad dash to the store to get our little ones.  Now that my oldest is in preschool and is beginning to learn to read she really enjoys books.  She came home today telling me about baby Jesus and that we’re going to celebrate his birthday on Christmas.  I was so excited to hear this from her.  She’s also told me other bible stories and so I’m going to purchase a bible for preschoolers.  I really like what I see in this one:
Day by Day Begin-to-read Bible One story a day, like a devotional for preschoolers.  She will love it.

Little Book Of Childrens SongsGreat book/CD for you not the kids to learn the songs they come home singing and they want you to sing over and over again with them asking mommy, sing with me.  Daddy, sing with me.  While the entire time you mumble the words and then your child stops mid chord and say you don’t know the words so just forget it, and walks off mad.

For your older reader they may like reading about the Jonas Brothers.  We haven’t made it ti this level yet, my daughter just tells me she doesn’t listen to them.  Check out their book if your child is interested in their music.  My theory is as long as your child is reading something they are gaining knowledge.

Get personal with the Jonas Brothers with their first book

Here’s some coupons I found that will save you some money.
Borders.com

Borders.com

Remember my real, never pay full price for anything again.

The gift of reading is the best gift to give to a child.  Having my own children and reading to them we are able to spend quality time and they learn so much and when I need a quiet activity this is my favorite source.  Also, no stubbing your toe and throwing away that toy you ran around town looking for the entire month.  Happy reading!

New Year’s Eve Dinner

I know, I know, we haven’t even celebrated Christmas yet, but I was thinking about having a romantic dinner with my husband and thought about when I could do it and New Year’s Eve is a good time.  With little ones running around doing it for Christmas just will not happen in my household.  I found a great site that delivers next day and has everything included for a romantic gourmet live maine lobster dinner.

I am thinking about ordering a few pounds of their Maine shrimp for starters at my annual Christmas Party  They have pretty good price on their dry bay scallops that I found a recipe for bay scallop scampi at www.bigoven.com.  The site has some really good seafood.  I’ve never had Caviar nor Roe, but considering stepping out and trying it at my party as well.

But back to my romantic plans for New Years.  I think I will start out by ordering one of the gourmet gift baskets to have delivered after Christmas so he will think it’s just a late Christmas gift.  The chocolate basket looks wonderful and he looooves candy.  I know he is not planning a night out for us since we have small children and I always arrange for childcare unless grandparents or great aunt flies in to “visit” us.  It’s really an excuse to see the kids I’ve come to realize they really don’t come to visit with us.  I say “visit” because great auntie came to “visit” us because I mentioned I had a chance to go to a baseball game, but turned the tickets down due to no sitter and guess who decided to fly in that week, yep you’re right, great auntie.  We have great family.  But back to romantic dinner.  I know no family is coming that week and my husband will not contact the sitter so I should be safe on plans.  I figure a late night dinner.  I can have the lobster delivered to my neighbor’s house and I will allow the kids to pick where they want to eat dinner that day and he never likes to eat where they want to so he’ll still be hungry once they go to bed.  I’ll find him something that has to be taken care of right then and there that will keep him upstairs away from the kitchen.  I think I can pull this off.  He’s always doing romantic things for me so it’s my turn to do for him.  Here’s another link to the site go check it out and plan that special dinner for your loved one.

Great Stocking Stuffer Ideas!!!!

We are one month away from Christmas and I know many of you are asking—what can I get my loved ones this year?  Well, here are some of my favorite stocking stuffer ideas:

For those of you who have loved ones in college or just many miles away try a phone card.  This is a great way to keep in touch no matter what time of the year.  It’s great for those college students that run up a cell phone bill or for that special person who travels out of the country frequently.

Women, a great stocking stuffer for that special man in your life (be your husband, boyfriend, father, cousin, friend or whomever) is a nice, sexy cologne.  My personal favorite is  Armani Code.  This cologne is a new elegant, sexy masculine scent that combines seductiveness with sophistication and ladies you know we love the combination of the last two.  Another option for your man is a nice Versace tie.  Nothing adds to a suit or nice shirt and slacks more than a nice bold woven silk tie.

Another idea for men is cuff links. Cuff links with a suit really steps it up a notch. These beautiful black cuff links are a classic. They can easily go with a business suit or with a nice dress shirt for a night out on the town.

Sterling Silver Onyx Cuff Links

Next some ideas for that special lady.  No matter what you think do not buy her a new vacuum, or anything else that has to do with work around the house.  Perfume is a great idea. Every woman loves to smell good.  Blue Seduction by Antonio Banderas was launched in September and made the list of the hottest scents for upcoming 2009.  It has received some great reviews and the price is right.  Shine is another nice scent.  It’s that refreshing scent for when you’re hanging out with the girls to just have some real girl fun!!!!

Another great stocking stuffer for women is a small handbag.  This Dolce & Gabbana zebra print handbag will be a great accent for  a New Year’s Eve Party.  It has enough flare that will make you stand out from all the rest, but subtle enough to keep all the ladies from giving you the evil eye because you look so good.

One more idea for the ladies is a bracelet.  Many of us women want a tennis bracelet, and I came across this beautiful black pearl bracelet a couple of days ago.  This bracelet will be a great stuffer for any woman regardless of age.  Will go well with jeans or business suit.  Mix it with any style you see fit.

Black Pearl & Sterling Silver Bracelet

These are just a few great ideas for that fashion guru in your heart.  Enjoy your shopping experience this season and remember to always look for the best deals.  My personal favorite is Mr. Rebates ( Mr. Rebates - Cash-Back Shopping at over 1000 Stores!)

Happy Holidays!!!!

As urban professionals who make our living online, we all know the importance of constantly updating our websites with fresh content.  In order to constantly add fresh, unique content you have to either:   1)  Write the articles yourself  2) Have someone write the articles for you 3) Purchase private label rights (plr) articles.  If you are an experienced internet marketer, please do not continue to read this post.  I will only insult your intelligence!  However, if you are just starting out like me, the following information could be helpful.  From one urban professional to another, here are the pros and cons of each:

Time for the Holidays! Men’s Bulova Watch Reviews

Well, it’s that time of year again!  The weather is getting colder, sleigh bells are ringing, and people are (slowly) starting to become nicer to one another.  The greatest thing about the internet revolution is the ability to conduct commerce safely online, and thus providing both retailers and consumers the ability to conduct shopping transactions painlessly.  Most urban professionals value time at least as much as they value their money.  Since holiday shopping is often a time intensive and sometimes stressful experience, shopping online is the perfect balance of your time and money.

Over the next few weeks, we will devote much of our time reviewing the best products of the holiday season.  Our focus will be on products that make great gifts, but don’t require you to know many intimate details of the gift recipient (i.e. measurements, favorite color).  Hopefully, our reviews will save you valuable time in researching and deciding on the perfect gift for that special person in your life. …click here to read more

Ladies and gentlemen, we all have been fashion bandits of this common mistake at least once or twice in our lifetime.  No accessories!  Now some of you may ask what does accessories mean?  Merriam-Webster defines it as, “an object or device not essential in itself but adding to the beauty, convenience, or effectiveness of something else”.  This means we must take our arms, ears, neck, hair and chest into account.  Ladies for us putting on a pair of earrings, necklace, scarf, bracelet or pendent takes our outfit to a whole new level.  Men for you, adding that watch, bracelet or tie takes you to that whole other level that will draw the attention that all men long for. …click here to read more

Hola Everyone!

As the tough economic times continue to delve from bad to worse, many people are looking to make a supplemental income, or start a new business altogether.  Lately, we’ve been getting a major increase of inquires from people looking for a wholesale supplier or a drop-shipper of designer fashion clothing and accessories.  Instead of responding to the same questions 1000 times, I just wanted to use my “blog time”  to answer several questions at once.

Looking and Feeling Good during Financial Crisis

There are many things to laugh at in life, but it’s no joke to any of us about the down turn of the economy.

If you are unaware of the current financial crisis, please let me crawl under the rock you’ve been under.  Not only are we coming into winter (think nice, healthy heating bill– seems like yesterday that we were celebrating the 4th of July) but we are also preparing for the shopping bonanza retailers call the holiday season.  Just like you, we are preparing for the holiday parties and to buy gifts to place under the tree.  As consumers, we want to save as much money as possible; this may mean instead of buying everyone 2 or 3 gifts we buy one “special” gift and for our kids instead of buying them the entire Barbie family and home we just buy Barbie and the Dream House. I’m all about saving money and cutting back.

During my presearch for Christmas I came across a great site that offers cash-back shopping to over 1,000 stores..  They have some great rebates and coupons for many major department stores.  To name a few Gap, Baby Gap, Guess, Lane Bryant, Limited Too, Macy’s and many, many more.  All store categories are available.  Check it out, it will help you save extra money.  Our motto is “Never Pay Full Price” for anything.  Every dollar helps during this rough economy.  Remember shop smart and save for that rainy day.

Shoes, shoes, we all love shoes

Hey ladies.  We all love to step out on the town with a nice pair of shoes, but not always want to pay the high price that comes along with them.  In my search of coming out of my mommy slump (refer to the mama days page) I found the perfect pair of shoes  at LoveMyShoes.com.    Whether you are looking for shoes to wear with a nice pair of designer jeans, or searching for the finishing touch to your custom made power suit, LoveMyShoes.com is a great site to shop.

Our goal is to provide every Urban Professional with the best price for their full attire and if we don’t offer the clothing we work to direct you  in the right direction to get it.  Remember ladies; the key is to accessorize, accessorize.  Add a splash of color with your shoes to make that memorable statement.

How is the financial crisis affecting you—and what are you doing about it?

Is it just me, or has this been one of the worst past two months in a long time?

The very definition of “Urban Professional” is one who is upwardly mobile, ambitious, financially savvy, and easily adapts to their environment.  Urban Professionals are educated, and conscious of the environment around them (whether political, social, or cultural, we are the Captains of our surroundings).  This is one of the main reasons we started RoddyJonesTrading.com; to market fashion clothing and accessories to urban professionals while providing them designer products at good prices.

However, as the stock market goes, so goes our business and clientele.  Because of the sour economy, we’ve had to adapt our marketing efforts and business practices.  My fellow Urban Professionals, what have you been doing to adapt to the current economy? …click here to read more

Barack Obama---The Black Cool

Barack Obama---The Black Cool

Hello Everybody,

We originally started the Style Log of Roddy Jones as an online avenue to express our opinions on all things fashion and style for the urban professional. Our customers would always ask for advice on the different types of products that we sell, and the Style Log gives us the opportunity to provide the type of customer service/advice similar to what you would receive at your local boutique.

I (and our guest writers) love this blog, mainly because we like to express our opinions about fashion and style. Lately though, I have become increasingly interested in politics, and the more I think about it the more I realize how fashion, style, politics, and life all seamlessly intersect in so many ways. The most obvious example is what’s going on in the 2008 Presidential race. Sarah Palin (my bad, the Republican National Committee) spending over $150,000 at Neiman Marcus to help shape her image is a perfect example of fashion, style, politics, and life intersect. …click here to read more
